I really wanted to title this post "The awesome, random shit that I put in the bath!" but I thought maybe that wouldn't do as well on the old Google search engine hahaha.
Now who doesn't like a nice hot soak in the bath? In all honestly my bath usually involves one of the kids coming in and talking about ponies and fairies and poop and I spend ten minutes trying to shoo them out to give me just five minutes of peace.
So although my baths might not be the most relaxing... yet, but the one thing I love to do is experiment with things to put in the bath... like really experiment! haha.
Below are my favourite items to put in my bath.
Epsom salts - are a naturally occurring pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulphate and are readily absorbed through the skin and into the body's blood stream. Magnesium helps to improve muscle and nerve function, reduces inflammation and improves blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body and sulphates are necessary building blocks for healthy joints, skin and nervous tissue. Epsom salts are a great way to relieve constipation in babies too. I get mine from Pure nature.
Lemon juice - Lemon juice contains vitamin c that neutralises chlorine, lemon juice also keeps the bath water slightly acidic, which keeps your skin's acid mantle healthy (read more about the acid mantle HERE). Just quarter or half a lemon is all you need squeezed into a bath.
Apple Cider vinegar - It acidifies the water (see HERE why that is good).
It will make your skin soft, neutralize the chlorine like lemon juice does and it is great for people who are prone to having eczema. just use a couple of cap-fulls in a bath. I get mine from Pure Nature.
Himalayan bath salt - A warm bath infused with Himalayan pink salt is fantastic for relaxing cramped muscles. It can bring great relief with its antiseptic qualities, and can enable your skin to heal.
Honey - It sounds sticky but you only add half a teaspoon into a large bath, Honey is cleansing and moisturising and soothing.
Oats - Oats are great for the skin, they are soothing, moisturizing, and great for relieving itchy, irritated skin due to eczema and other skin conditions. My absolute fave to use is the Stir it up oat milk, which makes the whole process easy.
Oils - coconut, almond, olive oil, a drop of essential oil like lavender or chamomile to calm
or orange oil to invigorate. All these are great, and you don't need much to create a moisturizing, healing benefit.
Shot of coffee - You are gonna smell a bit like coffee after this one I'm not gonna lie, so maybe just roll with it and add some honey in the bath also and then put on some vanilla moisturiser after to make you smell like a vanilla frappachino haha.
Coffee has great benifits to the skin including tightening the skin and improving circulation.
Brewed Chamomile - you can also add other teas, but I like chamomile for its calming qualities.
Coconut milk - Coconut milk is moisturising, it softens skin and it smells amazing. I use the Stir it up Organic Coconut milk, all you do is mix a couple of tablespoons into some hot water and throw into the bath.
My favourite combinations are below....
For soft skin - Coconut milk, honey, almond oil
To invigorate the skin - shot of coffee, Epsom salt, Himalayan salts
To calm the skin - Chamomile tea, Stir it up oat milk, apple cider vinegar
To relax - Epsom salts, lavender oil, coconut oil, lemon juice
